Maybe you’re feeling ready to take that next step in your business so it can grow, but you don’t know where to start. You’re thinking about hiring a business coach, but you’re nervous about the return on your investment. You might have ever heard some pretty unbelievable stories about other entrepreneurs working with “coaches” who didn’t help them at all. Yet, you also know there’s so much you don’t know yet about growing your business, you’re feeling alone in this journey, and you feel stuck.
This is a completely normal feeling to have! I call it business growing pains — the point of your entrepreneurial journey when you’re craving growth, you know you should invest in outside resources, but feeling hesitant about it.
If you’re ready to get started on the right path, keep reading because today, we’re debunking three popular business coaching myths to help you take that next step and grow your business with confidence.
P.S. Before we get too deep into this topic, if you’re not sure what a business coach is or what they can offer you, you’ll definitely want to check out this blog post that explains this in detail. After you’ve read that post and gotten familiar with the role they can play in your business, come back here!
A business coach, on the surface, may seem like a huge expense, but let’s also not forget about how this is actually an investment rather than a one-time expense because they’re going to teach you things about your business you either would have never known or you’d waste time (and potentially money) making tons of mistakes before finding your way.
As a business coach, I can validate that apprehension you feel about spending money on something that won’t have an immediate return on your investment. I can also validate that there are some awful coaches who only care about making a quick buck. But when you invest in the right one, they can help you get a return on your investment, and then some.
If you can find a coach that has done what you are currently doing, they can save you years of learning the hard way, which will fast-track your growth and revenue.
If you’re thinking something along the lines of, “I’m afraid they’ll see how much of a hot mess express my business is.” — don’t even sweat it! I can assure you that all great coaches have been in your shoes before. A great coach also won’t make you feel ashamed or embarrassed. Instead, they’ll look at your business in an objective way to provide step-by-step advice to set you on the right path for your goals!
Listen in on this conversation I had with one of the members of my CEO Mastermind Group for an example of how a coach can take what you’re struggling with, objectively analyze it, and come up with sound solutions that will motivate you to keep persevering in your business.
Another myth is that working with a business coach will be a waste of time. I have definitely been there before, working with coaches who weren’t the best use of my time. It might be because I’m a glass-half-full kind of gal, but even when I worked with coaches that didn’t live up to my expectations, I was still able to glean a few golden nuggets from our sessions that helped me shape the business I wanted to build.
My suggestion to avoid working with coaches that won’t meet your needs is to get recommendations from other business owners you trust. Plus, make sure the coach has done what you want to do or has achieved what you want to achieve.

Deciding to work with a business coach is always going to be a daunting decision at first. But I promise, once you work with a great one, you’ll never look back! The learning experience and the results of coaching will become so rewarding.
