“Growth and scale was realized when I began removing myself completely from whole processes and giving those to my staff members and training them how to handle the issue without me was so important.”

Episode 2/4: Building a Sustainable Wedding Business: Time, Goals, and Outsourcing Insights. | She Calls Her Shots Podcast

Hey there, CEO’s. Welcome to the Wedding Pro CEO podcast. I’m your host, Brandee Gaar, and my mission is to help you, the wedding industry entrepreneur, to build a profitable wedding business that you actually love. Every year on this show, we like to spend a month where we highlight other industry podcasts that we love and that I know you will love too.

Today I am so excited to introduce you to the She Calls Her Shots podcast with Krista Marie. In this episode, we talked about how to protect your time while growing your revenue and don’t we all know how needed this topic is. We talked about learning how to create and work towards goals that don’t feel overwhelming.

We also dive into the importance of narrowing your focus so that you can see long-term growth in your business and why outsourcing is so important as you grow. I’m excited for you to listen in on this conversation and to be inspired to reach that big, hairy goal that you are chasing right now. Let’s get into it!

Some key highlights from the episode:

  • How to know who to learn from
  • Setting realistic goals in your wedding business
  • What is the ROI on the goal you are pursuing? Growth or Vanity?

How to know who to learn from

There is so much education out there that it can get really overwhelming to know who to learn from! The best thing you can do is use free education like podcasts or workshops or webinars to kind of interview the educator. That way you can determine is this somebody that you like their style? Do you like the way that they teach? Do you like the way that they handle themselves? Have they built what you wanna build? Do they understand what you’ve walked through?

Then, choose an educator to go all in with for a while and maybe six to eight months and join their program and shut everything else out for a little bit. Once you’ve mastered this and built this piece of business, then you can start to look for that next step!

Setting realistic goals in your wedding business

I do think it’s always important to know what your goal is at the moment. So many of us will make 15 goals at the beginning of the year, and that’s just simply not realistic. I always try to encourage my students to have three to five goals for the year, and underneath those you’re going to have goals and tasks that kind of help you to get to that big one. It’s so important to set that goal and then to give yourself the freedom to let the other things go for now.

A lot of times it can get so overwhelming because you feel like you’re being pulled in all the different directions! It’s like you have to be on YouTube and you have to have a podcast, and you have to be on Instagram and TikTok and Pinterest and LinkedIn, and oh, by the way, you still have to get back to your clients, right?

Put all your effort into one goal for 6 months and continue to grow it. Once that six months is done and you’ve met the goal you’ve set for it, then okay, what’s the next thing you wanna learn for your business!

What is the ROI on the goal you are pursuing? Growth or Vanity?

I think as a business owner, no matter what kind of business owner you are, you really have to understand what moves the bank account. Right? I don’t want you to think it’s all about money, but if you’re a business owner, you definitely should be thinking about how does, everything I do in my business result in a return on that investment! And, and the return is not always dollars, right? Sometimes the return is a better relationship with someone or it’s a new venue partner, etc.

But at some point it needs to be a return on your bank account as a business owner because your business isn’t sustainable if you’re not turning a profit, right? So when you look at things like, I love being on Instagram, and you think because your follower account is going up and it’s great and exciting, but are those followers turning into dollars? Because if they’re not, then you’re now chasing a vanity metric. So you’re spending time places that aren’t moving the needle because it’s not returning sales.

So as a business owner, I think a lot of what we have to look at is what things do you do in your business every day actually return sales and that’s where you need to be focusing your effort.
