It’s funny how much this word has picked up meaning and familiarity in the last 3 years.  Moms now more than ever are utilizing their skills outside of their homes to create thriving real life and online businesses and I for one am so excited to have a front row seat to this movement.

I started Blush when our oldest, Emmalee, was 1.  I wanted more flexibility and time with her to be present for all of the milestone moments.  Her first steps, her first words, her first day of school and her first kiss!

But I never wanted to be a stay at home mom.  God bless all of the incredible women who are called to this but I was not.  As a girl, I dreamed of my career and the corner office and the cute suits.  Giving that up wasn’t in my DNA and with the incredibly supportive husband I have, I didn’t have to.

As we’ve built Blush, we also had 2 more daughters so I’m now the mom of 3 #gaargoyles and owner of 2 thriving companies (we opened Eleven Events by Blush in 2017).

Being a mompreneur comes with its challenges as you can imagine.  You’re often wearing several hats at one time, you have to switch back and forth between powerhouse decision maker and room mom in the same breath, you typically aren’t the mom with the homemade teacher appreciation gift (though I think they like gift cards better anyway so I try not to stress this one!), and you’re often exhausted and overwhelmed.

But I promise there is a way to do it all and do it well!  To not feel like you have no time left for yourself and to feel fulfilled in all you do!  Here are 3 of my tips for killing at home and at work!

  1. Keep a STRICT schedule.  We do nothing that isn’t on our calendar.  So much so that even if we decide to do a last minute dinner date, my husband adds it to our calendar!  I know….this is extreme.  But knowing what your day looks like every day and keeping appointments for all family members on one calendar helps to ensure you won’t double schedule yourself and have the dreaded mommy guilt!  We use Google Calendar and I have a calendar for myself, one for my husband and one for our kids.  This helps us to know who has to be at what and for Ira and I to be able to communicate who needs to take which of the kids to what sport or event!
  2. Get up early!  I can’t say enough how much this changed my life!  Get up at least an hour before your kids so you can have time to yourself to workout, enjoy a cup of coffee, read your bible, be still or just get your head together for what the day ahead will bring!
  3. Give yourself some grace!  It’s ok if you can’t chaperone all of the field trips or make it to all of the PTA meetings just like it’s ok if you can’t attend every networking event!  Being a mompreneur means prioritizing what’s most important and putting 100% of your time and attention into those things.  It’s better to be a master of a few things than mediocre at many.

What are some things you do to balance it all??
