Transcript of Short 51 – Your Biggest Obstacle in Growing Your Business.

The Wedding Pro CEO SHORTS are quick, bite-sized episodes are meant to inspire you as you build the business you’re dreaming of!

[00:00:00] Brandee Gaar: Welcome to today’s Thursday short of the Wedding Pro CEO podcast. I’m your host Brandee Gaar, and my mission is to help you, the wedding industry entrepreneur, to build a profitable wedding business that you love.

On today’s show, I want to talk to you about your biggest obstacle in your business.

Now, when somebody asks you what are you struggling with, what do you feel like is the thing that’s really holding you back the most in your business? I want you to think about that for a second. Go ahead.

I’ll wait.

I want you to think about, how would you answer that question?

If you and I were just hanging out at a networking event and I asked you, what is the biggest struggle in your business today? What is your biggest obstacle?

And I bet you’d say things to me like,

I can’t get enough clients.

I’m not really sure if my pricing is right.

I’m trying to build a team, but I’m not really sure what to do next or how to do that.

I want to make more profit in my business.

I wanna pay myself more.

[00:01:00] I think there’s a lot of answers that you would give, and I know this to be true because I asked this question a lot when I’m talking to new wedding pros.

But here’s what I think the answer is. I think the biggest obstacle in your business is you, and here’s why I think that our minds are a crazy playground, right? I struggle with this as well. So often I have to really have a conversation with myself about what I know I’m capable of, what I know my team is capable of, and how I know we can impact our clients.

The reason this is so important is because the wedding industry is like this high, high, and low lows, not even just the wedding industry, right?

Just being an entrepreneur, there are so many absolute highs where you’re just like, I am the best thing since sliced bread, and then there’s so many lows. Where you’re like, I suck at everything I

[00:02:00] do. And in the wedding industry, because it’s such a seasonal industry, in addition to these entrepreneurial highs and lows, you’ve now got the peaks and valleys of busy season and low season. Right?

In busy season, you’re like, I can’t even see straight. I have so many events, and then in low season, you’re like, is anybody ever gonna book us again?

And so really protecting your mindset and understanding that you do bring value, you have a solution to your clients’ biggest pain points.

What is sales, after all anyway, it’s having a solution to someone else’s problem, right?

So often we stand in our own way because our mind is so bogged down with, are we doing enough? Are we good enough? Are we as good as the other people that we see on social media?

And what I want you to really think about, especially in those times where you’re having those moments, ” Hey, am I good enough?”

I want you to actually be able

[00:03:00] to write out what is it that you do for your clients. Not only is this gonna help you with your mindset, but it’s also gonna help you when you’re selling, when you’re talking to a client. It’s gonna help you when you’re networking and when someone asks you what you do.

You’re not just a dj, you’re not just a florist, but what do you do for your clients that makes you different than everyone else in your market?

It’s funny because people ask me all the time, “Do you not feel uncomfortable teaching other wedding planners in Orlando how to build and scale their business? And I always kind of giggle at this because it’s such a scarcity mindset. Here’s the thing, no one can be you. No one can be me. You can have all the same tools and honestly all the same processes, but the value that you provide that your company provides to your clients is different than the other people in your market. And that’s the same [00:04:00] for me.

“In busy season, you’re like, I can’t even see straight. I have so many events, and then in low season, you’re like, is anybody ever gonna book us again?”

Brandee Gaar

Blush is different than every single one of my students. I teach all of my students, including those that are here in the Orlando market with me. I teach all of them exactly how to make sure that their sales funnel doesn’t have holes in it. I teach them exactly how to draw and new ideal customers. I teach them exactly how to make sure that their packages are profitable and how to build a team so that they don’t have to be involved in every single day-to-day decision.

But at the end of the day, what makes my team unique and what makes their team unique is different. And we are gonna attract different clients.

So what I want you to really think about is what do I do differently? How do I impact my clients? What do we provide to our clients that makes us unique. You have to be able to answer this question because when your clients come to you, when you’re posting on social media, when another vendor asks you what

[00:05:00] you do, you need to be able to answer this. But also when your mind starts playing all those tricks on you and you start thinking, I’m not good enough, I’m not like the other people on social media. I don’t have everything together. I’m not perfect. You need to be able to remind yourself what you do and how you impact your clients. Because I promise you that if you have a business that’s serving clients, you have a very unique skillset that those clients need and even more clients need as well.

This is how you stay confident in what you do.

I promise you there are gonna be days where you feel like the entire world is against. I have those days. I have ’em all the time. I know you might not believe me because you see me showing up here and I’m so confident and I’m, I can jump on live and just start talking to the camera.

That takes a lot of preparation some days. Some days I’m like on top of a mountain

[00:06:00] and I can’t wait to jump on here and tell you all about how to become even better.

And some days I’m like, “What the heck am I even doing, teaching other people how to build a profitable business because everything around me is falling apart.”

That’s just human nature. That’s entrepreneurship. That’s the wedding industry. But on those days, I remind myself exactly how I impact not only my clients at Blush and my team at Blush, but how I get to impact so many business owners who are building and scaling a profitable business. I remind myself of how far I’ve come in building a business that no longer requires, honestly me to even show up for it to run and serve our clients.

I have to remind myself that there are wedding pros that want to learn exactly what I’ve done in my business and what I’ve been able to teach so many other wedding pros to be able to do. If I

[00:07:00] didn’t have those results. If I didn’t know how I impacted our clients at Blush and my students at the wedding Pro CEO, I could just wallow in that I’m not good enough stage, but I don’t, I make sure that I know exactly how I’m showing up.

I make sure I know exactly how I’m serving, and so I want you to do that too.

Do not leave this episode. I’m keeping it short on purpose. Do not leave this episode without taking a few minutes to either voice memo yourself and. Dang girl. Here is how awesome you are. And here’s exactly how you show up and you serve your clients. Don’t leave this episode. Voice memo yourself. Write a note in your phone. Take a piece of notebook paper next to your computer and, and write a chicken scratch. I don’t care how you do it, but put it somewhere where on the days that you need to see it, that you can pull it out and you can remind yourself how you impact your clients because your biggest obstacle in your business, is you. I promise you

[00:08:00] that if you can get your mindset right and you can understand how you impact and serve your clients, there are no other obstacles that you cannot overcome, I promise you.

Thank you so much for being here every single week. I hope that you will do this exercise and then do me a favor, come over to the wedding Pro CEO community and tell us I wanna know… What is it that you wrote down? What did you voice memo yourself? Come tell us and share it with us so that we can cheer you on because guess what? Being part of this entrepreneurial world is crazy hard when you don’t have a community to do it with.
