Can you believe it’s the end of 2019?? Not just the end of another year but the end of a decade! Y2K was 20 years ago!!! Whoa….that makes me feel old!
With the end of each year comes a time to set new goals. A time to reflect on the past year and to forecast what the new year will hold for us.
One thing that I learned very early in my career is to always ensure your goals are SMART. SMART is an acronym for
Specific – Clearly defined
Measurable – Set criteria to measure the success of the goal
Attainable – Make sure it is possible to achieve
Relevant – Set goals that are relevant to your overall vision for growth
Time-Based – A date for which the goal is to be achieved
Setting SMART goals will help you to clarify your ideas, focus your efforts, use your time and resources productively, and achieve what you want for both your business and your personal development.
An example of a non-SMART goal would be: I want Blush to be more successful in 2020. How would you measure this? How will you accomplish it? Will achieving it even help you to grow for the future??
This same goal can be made SMART by saying: Blush will grow company sales by 3% in 2020 over 2019.
This goal is:
Specific: 3% growth year over year
Measurable: 3%
Attainable: We have grown more than 3% in the last several years
Relevant: We need growth to continue employing amazingly talented planners
Time-Based: We will accomplish this goal by the end of 2020
What goals are you setting in 2020?? I’d love to know so we can help each other crush them together!!!
