I see you friend.
I see you working late nights after your 9-5 trying to grow that side hustle. I see you busting your butt on weekends to take client calls, sacrificing time with family, hoping the hardship will be worth it.
You’re probably thinking to yourself “Once I make it, everything will work out like it should.”
I hate to break it to you – but that isn’t true.
Thinking your life will be perfect once your business is “successful” will only set you up for disappointment.
It’s like the Jim Carrey saying, “I wish everybody could become rich and famous, because they’d realize it’s not the answer.”
The truth is “making it” in your business is not the answer.
I’m sure you’re rolling your eyes because right now you’re in the trenches trying to escape 9-5.
But sometimes you have to take a step back and think to yourself:
“Once I ‘make it’ then what?”
Because you will make it.
Good news is I’m walking you through a framework that will continue to challenge you even after you’ve reached your goals:
Become An Expert in Something
Since I could speak, I said I wanted to plan weddings. That was my dream since I was a little girl and I even planned an anniversary party for my parents when I was six. For as long as I can ever remember, that’s all I’ve ever talked about: planning weddings and events.
I spent thirteen years creating a scaling three 6-Figure businesses in the event industry. And I’m blessed to do what I have always dreamed of doing for myself and for my family.
It’s given me the privilege to bring on my husband full-time, create jobs for aspiring wedding planners, and of course make money doing what I love.
Becoming an expert takes time and dedication. But once you’ve established yourself, finances no longer become an issue because making money is easy and fun.
I realize right now as you’re becoming an expert – everything is a challenge. I promise with time that will eventually go away and you will experience success. People before you have done it so it’s more than possible.
The question is – once you get there, what’s the next step?
Be Growing in Something
I don’t want to take for granted that I built several businesses doing what I love. However, now that my daughters are older, I realized I was missing a lot of life with them.
I loved planning weddings, but I didn’t love being away from my kids for 14 hours on the weekends and evenings.
My husband and I started to think “How can I still make a living and do this differently?”
Not only did I want to create a living differently, but I realized I wasn’t challenged anymore. After 13 years you learn a thing or two, right? Planning events almost became too easy.
Now I don’t do any weddings myself anymore. I’m thankful to have a dedicated team of planners to take charge with all Blush events.
And with a little extra time on my hands, I fell into business coaching for wedding professionals. I’ve been coaching for a little over a year now and I absolutely love it.
Coaching combined my passion for event planning and raising the next generation of event professionals all in one!
Know upfront your business doesn’t have to look the same for the rest of eternity and it probably won’t. Your business will ebb and flow as you do.
So start to think of ways you can take a new role in your business or by trying something completely different!
Become a Beginner in Something
Here’s the truth: you need to have hobbies.
You need to have actual hobbies that aren’t your business.
Especially as creatives – we thrive on creativity.
Spending seven days a week with our heads glued to a laptop all day makes it hard to spark inspiration for our work.
Not many people know this but I’ve actually taken up painting as a hobby.
Am I an expert painter? No.
Do I aspire to grow in painting? Not really.
It’s just a fun pastime that challenges me to think in different ways I don’t normally think in!
Next time you have the weekend free to yourself – think of ways you can become a beginner in something. It will only help your business and your creativity in the long run!
Build Your Business Around a Life You Love
So what do you say? Are you in on finding happiness and fulfillment in areas other than your business? Yes, continue to work hard and achieve your goals – but your level of happiness doesn’t come from any means of success. It comes from doing what you love while creating a life that you love too!
