The Wedding Pro CEO Podcast: Episode 174

With Brandee Gaar and Kristin Hubbard

Welcome Wedding Pro CEOs! Today this episode of the Wedding Pro CEO Podcast is spinning up some old school beats. Well… Not beats… But we wanted to re-introduce you to today’s guest as she will be part of the Wedding Pro CEO Summit this year! (Grab your spot here.)

On the show today, I am talking to a favorite wedding pro partner of mine way back in 2019. Before that crazy pandemic wreaked havoc!

Do you know Kirstin Hubbard and any of the story of how she grew one of the largest ALL FEMALE WEDDING DJ companies!?!?

My husband grabbed a past episode of the podcast where Kristin shared the real life struggles and challenges of building an incredible brand. It isn’t as easy as social media content can make it out to be! Right?

Kristin Hubbard, the owner of Our DJ Rocks and Photobooth Rocks in Orlando, Florida, is here to show you how to build an incredible brand.

She shares how she took a major leap of faith, left her corporate job and started her own all-female DJ company. She had no idea where life was supposed to take her next, but she took a chance and it paid off.

Kristin will talk about her experience in the industry and how she came up with the name “Our DJ Rocks”, which was actually suggested by her brides.

Her business has grown exponentially since she left her job at a hotel in 2009 to pursue DJing full-time, and her story is sure to encourage others to take risks and trust their gut.

Why is it important for Wedding Pro CEOs to build a strong brand?

It is essential for Wedding Pro CEOs to build a strong brand in order to differentiate themselves in the market and attract the right customers.

A strong brand communicates your values, sets you apart from competitors, and gives potential customers the confidence to choose your services over others.

Creating a powerful brand identity will help you stand out and communicate the unique qualities that make you the best choice for wedding planning, DJing, Floral Design, Video, Photo, etc.

Furthermore, a strong brand will help you build relationships with your customers, resulting in loyal and trusting clients. When customers associate your brand with quality and trust, they will be more likely to recommend you to others.

A strong brand will also help you reach a wider audience, as your customers will be more inclined to share positive experiences and recommendations about your services. Building a strong brand can help you create a loyal customer base and increase your chances of success.

Here are 4 thoughts I want to share with you from today’s podcast blog:
1. Identify Your Goals
.
2. Assess Your Situation.
3. Set Milestones.
4. Celebrate.

1. Identify Your Goals.

Identifying your S.M.A.R.T. goals is essential to achieving success. It involves taking the time to reflect on what you want to achieve and setting measurable objectives. Smart goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound.

Once you have identified and written down your goals, take the time to break them down into smaller, achievable steps that you can take to reach them. Make sure to include deadlines and small rewards along the way to keep you motivated.

Humble learning involves dropping the ego and being open to learning something new, even if it is something you may think you already know.”

2. Assess Your Situation.

In the episode Kristin shares the story of loosing all her DJ equipment in the first few months of being in business to thieves. That situation was a hard lesson to digest. Kristin did not have her equipment insured. Looking back she wished she would have had the equipment insured. Avoid those types of mistakes by assessing your situation.

Take a look at where you are currently. Evaluate what has and hasn’t worked. This is an important step when planning for the future of your business.

Learn from those who have gone before. Take a step back and look at the whole picture. What have you achieved so far? What have been the successes? What have been the failures? It is important to be honest with yourself and be mindful of your thoughts and feelings as you assess your situation.

Once you’ve taken a step back to evaluate, you can begin to think about the changes you need to make in order to keep progressing. What areas need improving? What can you do differently? What new skills can you learn that can help you move forward? What securities need to be put in place? Do you need to get that equipment insured even though it will set you back financially? Kristin would say yes!

When you’ve identified the changes you need to make, you can start breaking them down into achievable to-dos and actionable steps. Taking the time to assess your situation is an important step in the journey towards success.

3. Set Milestones.

Setting realistic milestones and timeframes for achieving goals is an important step in the process of building a profitable wedding business.

When you started your business it was necessary to research the market and develop a business plan. Once the research and business plan was complete, the next steps were to create a budget, acquire the necessary equipment, and plan out marketing strategies.

You have set a foundation already to grow your business. Simply review the steps you took creating your business and upgrade those into a new opportunity. Now give those milestones a time frame for achievement. This could involve setting deadlines for completing certain tasks and setting a timeline for when certain goals should be achieved.

Next, hold yourself accountable by setting regular check-ins with yourself or with a business partner to ensure that the milestones don’t go ignored or forgotten.

“Celebrate your next win by investing in yourself!”

4. Celebrate.

In the wedding industry, celebrating small wins is important for morale, motivation, and recognition of completing time sensitive milestones and S.M.A.R.T. goals.

Celebrate by sharing the win on social media! Make a Reel or share a Story of the win! Tag those that helped you achieve it. Treat yourself CEO! Maybe a whole cheesecake is your victory song? A relaxing spa day? Give yourself permission to celebrate that win!

99% of the time your team is involved in your accomplishments. Take them out to lunch, dinner, appetizers and drinks! Bonus them with a gift card or cash! Who doesn’t appreciate a little more money in their wallet?

Thank your clients for believing in your company and coming along for the ride! Without our clients where would we be?

Finally, set new goals. Keep the momentum going! New goals bring vitality to the work being done. It rallies the team to focus on slaying a dragon together and builds community within your business. And then you can repeat the celebration of success again and again!

You could celebrate your next win by investing in yourself! One way is by joining me and my wedding industry friends as we help you grow your wedding business into the profitable business you have always dreamed of at the next Wedding Pro CEO Summit…
